You can delete your Kuro account at any time. This page explains how, for the Kuro app on Google Play (Naman Singh Chandel), and exactly what happens to your data.

Delete in the app

  1. Open Kuro and tap your own ink portrait in the bar at the bottom (the Me tab).
  2. Scroll to the bottom, to Delete my account.
  3. Hold Hold to delete until it says Deleted.

That's all. It happens straight away and cannot be undone.

Without the app

If you no longer have the app, or can't sign in (for example because your account was banned), email support@theivies.in from the address you signed up with, with the subject "Delete my account".

  • We keep only a keyed hash of your email, so the address you write from is the only way we can find your account. We will reply to it to confirm the request is yours.
  • Once you confirm, we delete the account within 7 days.
  • We will never ask for your login code.

What is deleted

  • Your account and profile: pen name, ink portrait, voice intro, mood, bio, loves and hates, region, language and settings.
  • Your gender, who you'd like to talk to, your approximate location and your distance filter.
  • Your sign-in sessions and push addresses, on every phone.
  • Every chat you were in, for both people: the messages, voice notes, sealed photos, detail swaps and private check-ins in it. The chat disappears for the other person too.
  • Hellos and Sparks you sent or received, and the Sparks you have left, including any you bought.
  • Your messages in rooms, and the voice bottles you cast, with their recordings. Rooms you started close at once, and the rooms you could still start go too.
  • Kuro Plus: we cancel your subscription with Google, so it is never charged again (the time already paid for is not refunded), and your chat paper and Your month in ink are deleted.
  • Your notices, your blocks (both ways) and short-lived records such as your place in the Talk now queue.

What is kept, and why

Reports you made
Kept for safety review, with your account no longer attached to them.
Reports about you, with their evidence
Kept with the keyed hash of your email, so a safety decision still holds. Kept for 180 days after the case is closed.
A ban, if your account was banned
The keyed hash of your email and the reason stay on the ban list, with any appeal you made.
Under-18 lock
If a date of birth showed you were under 18, the keyed hash of your email stays locked until your 18th birthday.
Purchases (Sparks, rooms, Kuro Plus periods and the Founding member pass)
The order number, dates and refund state, so refunds and accounts can be settled. Kept for 8 years.
Safety decisions
Our record of decisions the safety team made about the account, and who made them.
Server logs and request counters
Deleted on their own after 14 days and about a day.

A keyed hash is a scrambled code: it cannot be turned back into your email address. Your email address itself, and your date of birth, were never stored.

Afterwards

  • Your pen name becomes free for someone else to choose.
  • You can sign up again later with the same email, as a new account, unless it is banned or locked until you turn 18.
  • Uninstalling the app removes what it kept on your phone.
  • Questions? See our privacy policy or write to support@theivies.in.
